Not the prettiest of the
Cotswolds towns, Moreton-in-
Marsh had its own special
appeal. Elegant 18th and 19th
century inns, shops, and
homes lined the high street,
but the town retained the
character of a market town
rather than a tourist attraction.

On off-market days, the wide High
Street was once a quiet and
peaceful tree-lined boulevard .
Today, most of the trees are gone,
replaced with parking stalls, and
traffic can be bumper to bumper.
Even so, it is a pleasant, homely
town, especially in the early morning
or evening.
